Cloppenburg Plant

Originally founded by Pfanni Otto Eckart KG in 1966, the Cloppenburg plant has belonged to the Emsland Group since 2000. Since then, the plant has specialized in the production of potato flakes.

With its annual output of potato flakes, the plant in Cloppenburg is one of the largest flakes plants of Emsland Food GmbH. The potatoes, which are grown by contract farmers from the region and stored properly before processing, are processed into high-quality flakes products.

More than 85% of the potato flakes produced are exported and successfully used in Europe, Asia and Africa. They are primarily used in the snack and baked goods industries, and as a binding agent for soups and sauces.

The employees at the Cloppenburg plant work in four shifts around the clock to guarantee that production takes place on time and that the stringent quality requirements are upheld.

Emlichheim Main Plant

In 1928, the foundation of today’s Group had already been laid in Emlichheim. An optimal combination of production, research, product development, quality management as well as marketing and sales is carried out here in the Group’s main plant.

The Group’s global personal customer service for all applications is carried out from Emlichheim. The foundation for the continued growth throughout all of the markets up until now is the partnership with the farms in the region.

In addition to potatoes being used as a raw material, processing peas also began in 2004.
The 2014/2015 potato campaign launched the operations of the new flake production at the plant. This, along with the production from Cloppenburg and Hagenow, makes the Emsland Group the world’s largest potato flake producer.

In addition to the production of flakes at the site, high-quality potato and pea starch and derivatives, as well as potato and pea fibers are produced. With the new Food Innovation Germany, a highly modern innovation center, as well as an additional potato intake in the plant’s new entrance area, the road to the future has been paved. In 2022, the plant was expanded to include a roll drying autoclave (‘Waltraut’ for short), which changed the plant image once again.

Factory Golßen

The Golßen plant was constructed in 1879 by the brothers Paul and Artur Lösche and produced potato starch, dextrin, special adhesives and cooking oil until 1945. In 1991, the Golßener starch plant was taken over by Emsland-Starke GmbH. Since then, extensive investments ranging in the millions have been made to improve the technical expertise and capacity.

The main focus in Golßen is placed on the production of starches and proteins from potatoes and peas. Fish feed is also produced here. The brands Aller Aqua® and Aquavalent® have been marketed very successfully here.

Additional applications include paper, textiles, adhesives and chemical-technical industries. The majority of native starch is processed into dry cationic starches.

Hagenow Plant

In 1970, Hagenow was a production facility for fries; the flakes puree and dumpling powder products came later. After reunification, extensive investments gave rise to one of the most modern locations for dried potato products in Europe, the Hagenow plant. As of September 2013, Emsland-Stärke GmbH became the main shareholder of Mecklenburg Kartoffelveredlung GmbH in Hagenow.

In addition to the potato flakes produced at the Hagenow plant, other products such as mashed potatoes, potato and bread dumplings and fried potatoes are also produced under the brand name ‘Echt vom Feld’. They consist of regionally cultivated, gently processed potatoes of the highest quality. Alongside the retail sector of consumer food services, the focus of the brand is also on wholesale food services as well as the private label business.

The Hagenow plant produces potato flakes which are used industrially as well as in the retail business.

Kyritz Plant

The Kyritz starch plant was built in 1873 by the businessman Carl Conrad and only produced potato starch at first. Thus, the starch plant is considered one of the oldest in Europe. In 1991, the starch plant was taken over by Emsland-Starke GmbH shortly after it became a GmbH starch plant. Since then, all of the plant’s areas have undergone comprehensive renovation.

With a refined starch content of 60%, a high proportion of native potato starch is converted into high-quality starch modifiers, which is also the basic material for producing starch-mixed products at the plant. Furthermore, the valuable components of the potato, such as the fibers in wet and dry forms, are obtained along with the fruit and processing water, which in turn are used for agronomical purposes due to their fertilizer qualities.

As with the other plants in the Group, the Kyritz plant is also fully certified.

The Kyritz plant has evolved into a key location for the Group for producing refined starch products for the food industry, and supplies customers around the world.

Wietzendorf Plant

The Wietzendorf starch plant is surrounded by the Lüneburg Heath near Soltau, Germany. It was built in 1969/1970 and used for manufacturing native potato starch. The plant has been operated by the Emsland Group since July 1986 before it was completely bought by the Emsland Group in 2008.

The starch quality here is unique throughout the whole Emsland Group due to its high viscosity. High-quality potato protein is also produced here in addition to purely native potato starch. In addition to its high quality, the plant also has an impressive repertoire of numerous international norms and standards. An overview on this is available in the Quality Management / Certification area.

The necessary raw material is grown and supplied within a 100-kilometer radius. The processing season is from August to January of the following year.

Wittingen Plant

The Wittingen plant was built in 1962 by the company C.H. Knorr Nahrungsmittelfabriken. It has also been part of the Group since it was acquired by the Emsland Group in April 2000. The wide range of applications and excellent properties of potato granules for the food industry were recognized as early as the 1970s, and thus the foundations for the successful development in Wittingen were laid.

The excellent conditions in the region ensure that the final products have extraordinarily high quality. In 2005, a new feed production plant for processing potato remains to make high-quality animal feed went into operation.

Emsland Food GmbH is also an important economic factor for the region of Wittingen. In the Wittingen plant, the availability of potatoes as a natural raw material is backed by our contract farmers in the potato-growing region around Wittingen.
