That is why the Emsland Group is continuously investing in its production plants across northern Germany, with the goal of securing reliable delivery of products for the future. A key focus of these investments has been on the production facility in Kyritz.
Laying the Groundwork for Future Starch Supply Security
To safeguard both sourcing and production, a business contingency plan has been established to secure a more resilient supply system across our production network. The Kyritz plant, which specifically produces native and modified starches for the food sector, is central to this strategy. While Emlichheim remains the largest production plant of these products in terms of volume, Kyritz is being developed to step in when needed—minimizing the risk of interruptions and giving our food sector customers greater peace of mind.
Kyritz: From Historic Facility to Future-Ready Plant
Established in 1873, the Kyritz facility is one of the oldest starch plants in Europe and has been part of the Emsland Group since 1991. Over the past years, the site has undergone major modernization, resulting in an increase in production capacity of blended products and wet modified starches, including pre-gelatinized starches. Additionally, a new dextrin plant was commissioned, the potato intake and washing system was fully modernized, and final product storage silo built.
Today, Kyritz already contributes significantly to the Emsland Group’s starch production — with its capacity to convert native potato starch into starch modifiers and blends, it supports many customers’ food applications. The site continues to remain in focus for future investments in order to further align its capabilities for the food sector even more closely with those of Emlichheim.
Certified Quality, Regional Raw Materials — and More to Come
As with our other facilities, Kyritz operates under comprehensive quality and safety certifications. The plant sources potatoes from surrounding regions, reducing transport distances and contributing to more secure and sustainable supply chains.
Ongoing process enhancements are focused on boosting capacity and further harmonizing production standards—ensuring that all customers, regardless of the plant their products come from, receive consistent quality and service.

The long-term goal is seamless cooperation between all seven production facilities in Germany. Additionally, we aim to establish a leaner supply chain in order to adjust quickly to market requirements. Through system-wide planning, shared technologies, and joint production management, we are working to build a production network where flexibility and reliability go hand in hand.
