We are committed to sustainability so that we can continue to successfully develop innovative products. This also means treating the environment and its resources responsibly. Potatoes are a renewable resource and are still the foundation of our product development.
Many of the Emsland Group's projects are deeply involved in sustainability:
The Emsland Group has reached a top spot in the category for Best Supplier & Best Improver in 2015 with its Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). We achieved excellent results in the evaluation of this year's CDP climate change report and significantly improved compared to last year.
The Hamburger Hafen prepared a large-scale study on sediment from the harbor with starch-based biodegradable flocculants. The successfully used cationic potato starch from the Emsland Group was evaluated as technically equivalent and ecologically far superior compared to synthetic flocculants. Advantages of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA): The organically based flocculants replace synthetic polymers based on acrylamide, which are not very biodegradable.
Based on positive practical tests in Hamburg's harbor and municipal sewage plants, the Emsland Group’s strategy is firmly focused on the areas of sewage sludge processing, resource-efficient wastewater treatment as well as manure processing and digestate treatment as prospective markets in the environmental technologies sector.
With the RSPO certification, the Emsland Group has taken an important first step towards nature conservation and human rights. Membership is a requirement for certification under the RSPO standard. The Emsland-Stärke GmbH first applied for this status in 2014, which was then approved in June 2014.

From farm to fork
Transparency throughout the production chain is essential for ensuring safety. The Emsland Group has made the entire process along the value chain transparent, from the farm to the fork as well as for customers, members and suppliers. An important step that signals security and confidence.
A sustainability report will be available shortly.
