The Emsland Group aims to reinforce the company’s environmental focus at all times by engaging in relevant activities in the area of climate protection. This is why striving for optimal resource efficiency in the production process and in product design is a top priority for us. These efforts are underpinned by the establishment of a comprehensive company-wide greenhouse gas footprint, which also paves the way for successful involvement in external sustainability assessments such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
The 2012/2013 financial year marked the first time a greenhouse gas footprint was established in line with the requirements of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) and DIN EN ISO 14064-1, supported by the FutureCampClimate consultancy firm. As a further important step, the scope of our participation in the CDP survey increased in 2014, reflecting an aim to publicly emphasize our commitment to climate protection. The Emsland Group has already been the recipient of an award in the Best Supplier & Best Improver category as part of the CDP project. The award was given due to excellent results in the following year, 2015, as the Emsland Group achieved a year-on-year increase of over 100%. Another award was received by representatives from the Emsland Group at the CDP Climate Leadership Award Conference & Ceremony in early November. Mr. Gerrit-Jan Wesselink, managing director of the Emsland Group, and Mr. Rainer Knoop, head of energy management at the Emsland Group, accepted the award on behalf of the Emsland Group.
The carbon footprint will in future be used to indicate the amount of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from an organization’s business activities or from the manufacture and use of a product. In this way, product-related greenhouse gas footprints should in future also allow us to provide customers who use these products with more accurate figures on the energy consumption and emissions involved.
Along the entire value chain, from development to marketing, our products will be continuously checked for their environmental impact. Whether with RSPO certification, the assessment of CDP climate change reports or with regard to projects for heat recovery or the factory’s in-house wastewater treatment plant; ongoing certification and projects in the areas of quality, environment, occupational safety and energy confirm the effectiveness of our approach. We put this into practice in keeping with the spirit of our corporate philosophy, 'using nature to create'.
